I agree. Buying health insurance for your pet is like buying an extended warranty at Best buy - you almost never need to use it and when you do you find out that you weren't really covered completely. Total costs are higher than if you just pay for vet visits when you need them.

Great Post! This article does give good information. I have also found out through my personal experience that pet insurance is not worth it. My boxer is pretty healthy and as long as I take care of his food and exercise, he should stay healthy. Pet insurance does not make owning your pet any cheaper. If anything I found it to be more expensive.

The full cost of looking after animals should be considered before a pet is purchased. Things such as vet bills, proper food and any toys should all be considered. Regular visits to the vet and taking animals in quickly if sick should help keep the costs down in the long run. Too many animals have to be euthanized because people don't consider these points.

Pet insurance can be valuable to have. I certainly have benefited from having it. But, I do agree with you, being educated in your animals health is vital.

In this age where its even tough to manage your own expenses, pet care expenses are a real heart burn.
But this book tells ways to slash these expenses without even getting your pet insured.
Its even better for those who have multiple pets.

There is no point in keeping a sick dog alive needlessly. It suffers.

I think you are right on with pet insurance. While sometimes I think its a scam, you have no other option as paying for vet bills out of pocket can be insane. My neighbor has paid $24k already to take care of her dog for the last 5 years. The dog was sick but that sure is a lot of money. Vets seems to make more money than doctors lately.

Exactly right...pet owners need to understand that taking care of there pets in the same way they take care of themselves (of course I am hoping people take good care of themselves) will definetely cut down on vet bills and negate the need for pet insurance. Proper nutrition, including natural supplements, exercise and good grooming should in most cases ensure your pet a long healthy life.
